Kim Basinger - $8 Million
Before anyone panics, Kim Basinger might not have acted in a while now, but she’s doing alright financially. Basinger’s currently estimated to be worth around $40 million. It wasn’t always peachy for her, though, as she came close to being broke once. In the ’90s, she was going to be starring in the Boxing Helena film.
She got the part after Madonna dropped out last minute. Once she accepted the role, however, she tried changing the script, which resulted in a lawsuit by the production company. Basinger had to pay the studio around $8 million, which caused her to go bankrupt. They later settled for $3.8 million.
Burt Reynolds - $10 Million
Just before he got his Oscar nomination with Boogie Nights, the infamous Burt Reynolds was going through a rough patch. He was never fully able to jump back from his debt, and at the moment of his death in 2018, he was worth just $3 million.
His financial troubles started shortly after his divorce to Loni Anderson. By 1996 he was $10 million into debt and filing for bankruptcy. Reynolds had spent in luxuries like a 153-acre ranch in Jupiter, mansions in the 90210 and Malibu, horses, and racecars. The last film in which he ever played is yet to be released, called Defining Moments.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. - $30 Million
He might be a former record-setting boxer, but that didn’t stop Floyd Mayweather Jr. from going deep in debt. By 2017, he owed around $30 million to IRS in taxes. Speaking of someone that has earned up to $300 million in a year, we can’t possibly imagine how he could find himself with such a debt!
On top of his affection for gambling, Floyd also has a thing for fancy cars and houses. He lives $10-million home in Las Vegas and has owned cars like a $4.8-million Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita. Floyd’s still worth $560 million. In 2020 he took part in Zab Judan: The Outlaw of Boxing documentary.
Mike Tyson - $23 Million
Through boxing, Mike Tyson has earned around $300 million. However, his entire fortune right now is estimated at $3 million. We shouldn’t be surprised to hear that, after all, in 2003, he filed for bankruptcy, being $23 million in debt, both from his unpaid taxes and from his divorce settlement!
Mike’s since been able to bounce back. Ever since 2014, he has been making the Mike Tyson Mysteries series. He won his first belt when he was 20 years old, and now that he’s 54, he took part in Double or Nothing by All Elite Wrestling.
Stephen Baldwin - $1.2 Million
After years of unpaid mortgages, bad tattoos, and excess spending, Stephen Baldwin found himself being worth around $500K. Just by taking a look at his career, however, one would think that he’d be worth a lot more. After all, he’s played in films like Born on the Fourth of July and The Usual Suspects.
In 2011, Stephen was officially bankrupt. He owed $1.2 million in mortgages from two of his New York City houses and had a bad credit card balance. Thankfully his talent never left him, and he’s still playing in films today. In 2020 we’re expecting to see him in the movie called Blood Pageant.
Pamela Anderson - $200K
Pretty much everyone knows Pamela Anderson for being the steamy actress/model that she is. Her activism for animal rights and veganism has also been a topic in recent years. In 2020, she made news for an entirely different reason, which was her 12-day long marriage to producer Jon Peters.
The buzz following their split was all about Peters claiming that he'd paid off $200K of Anderson's debt. It does pose the question about her $12 million fortune, and since both the Baywatch star and her representative denied the claims, it could have been a false accusation altogether.
Warren Sapp - $7 Million
Warren Sapp is a 47-year-old former NFL player who had a 13-year long career. During his time in the NFL, Sapp has made millions of dollars, given that he made over half a million every year (according to Celebrity Net Worth). However, he is currently in debt.
In 2012, Sapp filed for bankruptcy after claiming to have owed $7 million in debt to not only the IRS, but also to four women as child support, and medical bills. His life has taken an unfortunate turn due to irresponsible actions, and sadly, Sapp has no one to blame but himself.
Artie Lange - $62K
You may remember Artie Lange as a stand-up comedian and actor, especially for his time on Mad TV in the '90s. He also had a lengthy radio career as the third mic on The Howard Stern Show. Lange's life took a turn after he developed a gambling and drug addiction, after which his life went downhill.
The gambling problems have put the 52-year-old in $62K debt. Multiple relapses, rehabilitation attempts, and a whole of debt later, Lange has been in the process of resuming his career since 2019. We whole-heartedly wish him well.
50 Cent - $36 Million
Since his first album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was released, 50 Cent has continuously been underneath the spotlight, both through his ups and through his downs. His many business ventures granted him bankrupt in 2015; however, he has since been able to jump back up on his feet.
At the time of his bankruptcy, 50 Cent was $36 million in debt. Once he was able to pay off around $22 million, his debt was thankfully discharged. Today, he is worth approximately $30 million. He has announced an upcoming album called Street King Immortal and is the founder and CEO of G-Unit Films and Cheetah Vision.
MC Hammer - $13 Million
His songs might be timeless, but his fortune wasn’t. At his peak, MC Hammer is estimated to have been earning up to $30 million a year! However, he wasn’t paying attention to his financial advisors if he ever had any. By 1996, MC Hammer was officially $13 million in debt.
He had gotten loans, spent $12 million building a 40,000-square-foot mansion with two swimming pools and golden plated gates in Fermont, and his album sales weren’t as high as he thought they’d be. Today, he’s worth around $1.7 million, living in a $789K-worth house in Tracy, California.
Willie Nelson - $16 Million
There’s no doubt that Willie Nelson is a great musician, but when it comes to paying his taxes, Willie doesn’t have the same skillset. He started releasing his music in the ’60s, and by the ’90s, he found himself owing over $16 million to IRS. The Internal Revenue Service would later seize many of his assets.
In 1992, Willie released The IRS Tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories? album. Even though it amassed over $3.6 million in sales, the IRS demanded $9 million more from him. By 1993, he was thankfully cleared of his debt. In 2020 Willie released his latest album, called First Rose of Spring.

As a child, Gary Coleman was spending his days in between film sets. He was born in 1968, and by the late ’70s, he was already starring in the Diff’rent Strokes series. By the time of his death, however, in 2010, Gary was worth just $75K.
With all fairness, he had little luck when it came to his finances. He had many medical bills adding up, and an ongoing legal battle with his adoptive mother and father. Even though he won $1.3 million from a lawsuit in the ’90s, by the end of that decade, he found himself $72K in debt.
Wayne Newton - $20 Million
Wayne Newton might no longer be in serious debt since the late ’90s, but it seems as though legal troubles have never stopped chasing him. Although when it came to performing, Newton never missed a note, we can’t say the same about his finances. After all, he’s gone through bankruptcy and back!
In 1992, after a series of unfortunate investments, he found himself $20 million deep in debt. He had bought a 213-acre estate in Lake Tahoe in which he failed to build anything, and his 50% stakes at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino were but a hole in his pocket. By 1999 his debts were paid off.
Cyndi Lauper - $80K
When Cyndi Lauper was starting in the music industry, she did so as part of the Blue Angel band. Shortly after the release of their first album, however, they had a fallout, which resulted in their manager suing them for $80K! Of course, Cyndi was but a start-up singer back then, and the lawsuit had her bankrupt.
Two years later, she released She’s So Unusual, and the rest is history. Cyndi is now one of the ’80s’ best-known singers and performers, having sold over 50 million albums throughout the world! We’re now expecting to see her acting alongside Jane Lynch on a new Golden Girls themed Netflix series.

It appears Toni Braxton’s been having many ups and downs, but through it all, she’s always jumped back up. Her first bankruptcy came in 1998 after her lawsuit against Arista and LaFace Records failed.
By 1999, the lawsuit was settled, and she was back in the recording studio. Over a decade later, Toni was diagnosed with lupus. She had to cancel her Las Vegas residency and take time off. As a result, Toni wound up bankrupt again. Thankfully, she’s doing well these days and even released Spell My Name in 2020.
Aaron Carter - $3.5 Million
As a teenager, Aaron Carter was touring with Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, however, as a grown-up, he found himself filing for bankruptcy. Aaron was born in Tampa in 1987, and his first album, Aaron Carter, was released in 1997. He is currently worth around $400K.
In 2013 he declared himself bankrupt. His debt is estimated to have been up to $3.5 million, with over a million of it being to the IRS. He’s since been able to pay his debt off. T-Pain - Undisclosed Debt
At the peak of his career, T-Pain was worth up to $40 million. He took some years off from releasing new albums after the release of Revolver. Although the album did okay, it didn’t do as well as his other records up to that point, which were peaking the charts.
In 2019, T-Pain won The Masked Singer competition, and he was brought back under the spotlight. During an interview with The Breakfast Club that year, T-Pain revealed that he reached the point when he had to borrow money to feed his three children. He’s stable right now, thankfully, and working on new music with Chris Brown and Omarion.
Johnny Depp - $100 Million
His career has been fruitful since the ’80s when he started acting on A Nightmare on Elm Street. Johnny Depp’s been in countless hit films, and at some point, he had accumulated a total fortune of up to $200 million. He’s said to have earned over $650 million with his performances!
In 2018 he realized he was making a mistake all along. He filed a lawsuit against his financial management team, claiming that they had failed to pay his taxes for almost two decades! Even though he’s been dead for over a decade now, Michael Jackson’s name is still making more money than what most people do in a lifetime. He spent his life living like a king. At the time of his death, however, Michael was around $500 million in debt.
It’s no secret that he liked to purchase ridiculous luxuries and memorabilia, and the Neverland Estate is the grandest example. He bought it for $19.5 million in the ’80s. By the time he died, the estate even had a zoo in it! He also owned memorabilia, like the Edward Scissorhands gloves, and an Oscar for which he paid $1.5 million.
Lindsay Lohan - $100K
From the ’90s up until the ’00s, Lindsay Lohan’s face was all over the TV. That was simply because her acting career had skyrocketed with films like The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. By 2012, however, her lifestyle had her falling deep into debt. TMZ reported that she owed over $100K in taxes!
Lindsay was more focused on spending $40K on her tan and buying expensive Hermes Birkin bags, rather than having good credit. That, along with a series of DUI arrests, rehabilitations, and bail payments, took their toll on Lohan’s pocket. She’s acting again now, and in 2019 she played in Among the Shadows.
Larry King - $350K
He’s a legendary radio and TV show host, but things weren’t always looking up for him. Larry King only landed his show on the radio in 1978. Earlier that month, he had filed for bankruptcy, being approximately $350K in debt! His show went on to air for over two decades.

She was even sued by her former lawyer, who was asking $8 million in defamation damages. Courtney later won the lawsuit, but still had to pay $350K. By the end of 2018, she had paid off most of her debt. Today, we are expecting to see her in The Long Home film.

He left no will behind, so his at-the-time teenage son found himself in some serious debt. Eventually, it was all paid off from his royalties. After all, Marvin had created songs like Ain’t That Peculiar, and I Heard It Through the Grapevine. In 2018, Dr. Dre announced he’s planning to make a biopic for Gaye’s life.
Francis Ford Coppola - $98 Million
Despite the talent that’s running through the Coppola family, it seems as though they also have a habit of not managing their finances properly. We’ve already gone through Nicolas Cage’s case, but little did we know that his dad, Francis Ford Coppola, is no stranger to going bankrupt!
By the ’90s, Frances had filed for bankruptcy thrice! In 1992, he had $52 million in assets, while also having liabilities of up to $98 million! A series of non-commercially successful films that cost millions more than what they made took a toll on Francis’s pockets. He’s now planning on directing the first film since retiring, Megapolis.
Lil’ Kim - $4 Million
She might’ve spent the ’90s being one of the best female rappers out there, but by the ’00s, things started looking bad for Lil’ Kim. She even served a year in prison in 2005 for lying to the jury during a previous case in which she was involved!
In 2018, she finally filed for bankrupt. Kim listed just over $2.5 million in assets, while her debt was reaching the $4 million. Around $1.8 million of her debt was in taxes. By 2013, he found himself trying to decrease his alimony and child support payments. He had to pay around $900K a year to his ex-wife and children. Today, his fortune is, in fact, considerably smaller than what it used to, at $20 million. In 2020 he played in both The Secret of Karma film and the Professionals series.
Curt Schilling - Undisclosed Debt
As a baseball pitcher, Curt Schilling was exemplary. However, we can’t say the same about him as a businessman. He started playing for the MLB in 1988, upon joining the Baltimore Orioles and retired as part of the Boston Red Sox in 2007. His baseball career had earned him $115 million.
Today, Curt’s worth around $1 million. He lost all his money in the video game industry. After retiring, Curt started the 38 Studios company. Their first game, Kingdoms of Alamur, was a huge success. They wound up getting a $75-million loan to help with their new RPG, which was never finished and had the company go bankrupt by 2012.
Lauryn Hill - $970K
Lauryn Hill is, without a doubt, an incredibly talented musician. When it comes to paying her taxes, however, she has a soft spot. Starting in 2005, Lauryn stopped paying her taxes. By 2013 she had a debt of around $970K, which she only paid that year, at around the same time with her three-month-long imprisonment. Lauryn’s now worth $8 million and has just released the song called We Got Love with Teyana Taylor.

By now, Wesley Snipes is well acquainted with the IRS. After all, his dealings with it had him serve time in prison between 2010 and 2013. Even though he was making a lot, playing in films like Blade and New Jack City in the ’90s, Wesley forgot to pay his taxes.
Even when he was released, he still owed the IRS $23.5 million. Eventually, he made an $850K offer in compromise, which was rejected. Wesley is now said to be worth around $10 million. He’s back at work as well, as, in 2020, he played in Paper Empire, Cut Throat City, and Coming 2 America!
Lena Headey - Undisclosed Debt
She’d been acting since the ’90s, but her recognition only came in 2011, once she was cast as Cersei on the Game of Thrones series. We would imagine that Lena Headey’s finances would be perfect since then, but as it turns out, by 2013, she was self-proclaimed broke.
Of course, that year was rough for Lena, as she was divorcing her now-ex-husband, Peter Loughran. She spent that year living off of her credit card but was able to get back up her feet with ease. By 2014, she was able to afford to buy a house in Sherman Oaks for $790K!
Willie Aames - $260K
He went from starring on Eight is Enough and Charles in Charge from the ’70s up until the ’90s, to participating in Broke & Famous in 2009. Willie Aames grew up as a star, but sadly, his lifestyle couldn’t be supported by his income once he became an adult.
In 2009 even his home in Kansas was facing foreclosure, as he owed around $260K in payments. He took a decade-long acting hiatus between 2006 and 2015. Today, he’s back at it again thankfully, and played in two films within 2020, Picture Perfect Mysteries: Exit, Stage Death and Battle Monster.
Teresa Giudice - $11 Million
She’s now a member of The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s cast, earning around $60K with every episode. However, Teresa Giudice’s credit is incredibly bad. Various sources estimate her debt reaching the $11 million! It’s mainly caused by her legal fees and excessive spending.
As if her legal troubles weren’t enough, in 2019, Teresa also got a divorce from her husband, Joe. She’s served time in prison, and was released in 2015, less than a year before her husband went to jail as well. That same year, her Towaco house faced foreclosure.
Sly Stone - Undisclosed Debt
Given that he was part of the Sly and the Family Stone band, we’d expect of Sly Stone to be filthy rich right now. However, that’s sadly not the case for him, as he’s only worth $150K. With the band, they made songs like Dance to the Music and Everyday People.
He signed off the rights to his music in the ’80s. By 1989 he stopped receiving any royalties from his songs at all. He also had the IRS on his back, taking most of his money to pay his unpaid taxes. In 2015, Sly was thankfully awarded $5 million from royalties.
Tyga - $890k
He’s a worldwide known rapper with a terrible skill in managing his money. Tyga’s been sued countless times for failing to pay anything from his jewelry to his taxes. By all means, he’s still worth around $5 million, even with the lawsuits piling up.
By 2016, he reportedly owed money to the IRS, his jeweler in Beverly Hills; he was behind on his house payments and a Ferrari that he had bought in 2013. Page Six reported that his total debt was at around $890K in 2018. A year later, he released the album called Legendary.

Amanda Bynes - Undisclosed Debt
She’s gone from starring in one movie after the other to having her mother receiving conservatorship of her assets within a matter of years. Amanda Bynes’s story is sadly all too familiar, much like many child actors’ before her. She started out playing in Nickelodeon’s All That series in 1996.
The last film in which she ever played was Easy A in 2010. A couple of years later, she would get arrested for the first time for a DUI. She’s since opened up about her mental health, being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and her drug use. The last time we saw her was in 2018 on Laugh Factory.
Heidi Montag - Undisclosed Debt
She might not be in debt, but given that ten years ago, Heidi Montag and her famous husband, Spencer Patt, were worth $10 million, she has certainly lost a lot of money! Heidi is now said to be worth just $20K. They earned their money mostly by playing in The Hills series.
In an interview with People Magazine in 2016, Heidi revealed that they’ve been broke for the past years. It appears their expensive habits couldn’t be supported by their income, no matter how large it was! With all fairness, Mischa has been on an ongoing legal battle with her mother-agent for the past years. She has even sued her mother, claiming that she defrauded her assets. Katie’s now behind on her mortgage payments, and has many plastic surgery bills pilling up, at around $32K! It’s safe to assume that should she stop spending recklessly, she’ll be able to shake the debt off easily. In 2020 she participated in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
Tori Spelling - $293K
She’s a 90210 star, a working mother of 5, and apparently, deep into debt. Tori Spelling might be an acclaimed actress, but her balance says otherwise. Her troubles started in 2016 when American Express sued her for owing them $88K. As if that debt wasn’t enough, then came City National Bank asking her and her husband, to pay back $205K!
With her debt now reaching almost $300K, Tori did what she knows best. She took part in The Masked Singer in 2019, and started playing in the 90210 remake series! In 2020 she also participated in the Celebrity Show-Off show. She’s now said to be worth around $500K.

We can also imagine that his four past divorces and the child support payments for his three children have also taken a toll on his finances. In 2005, he was even sued by the Florida Times-Union for defamation, and had to pay $300K to get out of the lawsuit!

Although, as a child, she was successful, most of the films she’s been in since the ’00s haven’t done so well. A significant example is A Guy Thing in 2000, which had a $20-million budget, and only amassed around $15 million worldwide. She was also set to make a series out of The Bell Jar book, which never got created.

She was motivated by the move to join the cast of The A-Team in the suit she claimed that General Hospital no longer paid her enough to keep up with her lifestyle.
Meat Loaf - $1.3 Million
When it comes to music-making, Meat Loaf is arguably a genius. However, when it comes to managing his finances, he has a soft spot. He has sold over 80 million albums worldwide, making him one of the world’s best-selling artists. In the ’80s, however, he found himself failing to make do.
A series of lawsuits filed against him, added up to him having to pay around $80 million. In 1983, he was officially bankrupt, $1.3 million into debt. He’s fortunately been able to shake the debt off and is now worth around $25 million. The last time we saw him was in the Ghost Wars series in 2018.

Upon Elvis Presley’s death, naturally, most of his estate was left to his only daughter, Lisa Marie. She could only ever have access to it, however, once she turned 25, and so she did, in 1993. By then, Graceland, his house, alone was worth around $100 million!
Even though things were looking up back then, today, Lisa Marie is approximately $16.7 million in debt. We can’t even begin to imagine how she’s lost all her dad’s money. After all, she also wrote a book about him in 2012, Elvis… Through His Daughters Eyes. She’s now going through another rough patch, following her son, Benjamin’s suicide in 2020.

Sadly, many NBA players wound up being broke shortly after retiring, and Dennis Rodman is a living example. Through the NBA and the many teams with which he played, Rodman is estimated to have earned around $27 million in total. However, his lavish lifestyle, and expensive divorces, have him now being worth $500K.
At some point, Dennis owed around $800K in child support and about $350K in back taxes. He surely wishes he’d invested his money differently now, but at least he’s still out there making headlines! In 2020 he participated in The Last Dance docuseries and is now going to be the subject of the documentary film called Rodman.
Nicolas Cage - $6.3 Million
He went from winning Academy Awards to owing $6.3 million to IRS. Nicolas Cage is now worth $25 million, but his fortune could’ve been a lot larger had he not squandered it. He even bought a $276K-worth dinosaur skull, which he had to return once he found out it was stolen!
Cage even owned a house that’s worth as much as he is right now! He had a $25-million home in Newport, a $3-million island in the Bahamas, and two castles in Europe worth a total of $12 million! He’s jumped back up from his debt, however, and will now be playing on an upcoming Joe Exotic series.
